RATATAT - DRUGS -

Jsem propásla, na video se ale taky stojí za to koukat...s křížkem po funuse, ale přece. Díky M.

Ratatat, from Brooklyn, New York, United States is an music duo: guitarist Mike Stroud and synthesizer driver and producer Evan Mast (E*vax).

Stroud and Mast originally met as students at Skidmore College, but did not work together musically until 2001, when their project was named Cherry (later the name of the final song in their debut album). Written and recorded in the bedroom of Mast’s Crown Heights, Brooklyn apartment, the band’s debut album Ratatat for XL Recordings was released in 2004. This album is entirely instrumental, except for excerpts of dialogue at the ends of some tracks. Ratatat has toured with bands such as Interpol,Clinic, Junior Boys, The Killers, The Faint, Daft Punk, The Shins and most recently Björk.

Ratatat have been known to remix other artists’ songs, most notably on their limited 2004 release Ratatat Remixes Mixtape Vol 1, which garnered the attention of Rolling Stone. In 2005, the band remixed a track for Swedish band Shout Out Louds and The Knife.

In August 2006, Ratatat released a second album Classics, from which the single Wildcat was taken.

In October 2006, a demo album from Ratatat entitled 9 Beats was leaked online. This set of tracks does not appear on any official discography listings. The tracks consist of short instrumental electronic musical pieces and demos for their next mixtape.

Dobro z Islandu - Hjaltalín

ReykjavíkIceland (2004 – present)
The band Hjaltalín began as a one-act thing in the music scene of MH, a Reykjavík gymnasium (in 2004) that is renowned for harboring musicians. Things have evolved since then, personnel changed, and the band has actually changed course regarding musical styles in the meantime, although the band is certainly hard to categorize with influences ranging from modern indie rock to 60’s pop music to classical music.

THE TERMINAL (2010)
Terminal is, if anything, more diverse than its predecessor, the singing chore is divided more equally between the band’s two singers, which adds to the diversity. In general it just has more of everything, which is both good and bad.

Beautiful string and horn samples appear throughout the album; almost every track features some kind of instrument, either as an intro, backdrop or prominent melody in the many-layered compositions. This creates a unique mix of classical and electronic music, blended seamlessly into a modern dreamscape that appeals to both our traditional and experimental sensibilities. Each song is a psychedelic voyage, visions of an introvert letting a story unfold before our ears. It takes a twisted and thought-provoking mind to evoke such immediate responses and emotions in listeners.

Sufjan Stevens - The Age of Adz [2010]

  • Sufjan Stevens - The Age of Adz [2010]

Sufjan Stevens - The Age of Adz [2010]
The Age Of Adz is Sufjan Stevens' first LP in five years.

The title The Age of Adz is a reference to the apocalyptic art of Royal Robertson (1930—1997), a Louisiana-based sign-maker (and self-proclaimed prophet) who suffered from schizophrenia. Robertson’s work depicts his vivid dreams and visions of space aliens, futuristic automobiles, eccentric monsters and signs of the Last Judgment. Portions of Stevens’ album use Robertson’s work as an idealistic springboard and a selection of Robertson’s drawings (his primary media were poster board, magic marker, and glitter) appear throughout the album art.

Despite the strong narrative and biography mentioned in the press release, Asthmatic Kitty also says that the new album will have fewer biographies, historical bits, place names, etc., in the songs. They note that The Age Of Adz will instead focus on “… the personal and primal: love, sex, death, disease, illness, anxiety and suicide …” Although one of Stevens’s gifts is that he’s always been able to mix the personal and the primal with sweeping histories, biographies, and road maps.
